Ram-Nam
Every Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m., we have a singing of Ram-Nam in Sanskrit along with other devotional songs in English, Hindi, and Bengali. All are welcome.


RETREAT PROGRAM

A monthly retreat program, for members only, is conducted at the Society's Retreat property near Arlington, WA.

This month’s retreat program will be held on Saturday, May 27th.

Swami Bhaskarananda’s Visit to Maryland, Delaware and Washington, DC
Swami Bhaskarananda will visit Vedanta groups in Maryland and Delaware, as well as the Vedanta Society in Washington, DC. He will leave Seattle on Monday, May 5th, and return on Saturday, May 10th.

Swami Bhaskarananda’s Visit to Vancouver, BC
At the invitation of the Vivekananda Vedanta Society of British Columbia, Swami Bhaskarananda will go to Vancouver, BC on Thursday, May 15th, to perform a worship in honor of Sri Ramakrishna. On Friday, May 16th, he will give a talk and return to Seattle on Saturday, May 17th.

Swami Bhaskarananda’s Visit to the Vedanta Societies in San Francisco, Berkeley, and Sacramento
At the invitation of the Vedanta Society of Northern California in San Francisco, Swami Bhaskarananda will go to San Francisco on Thursday, May 22nd, and will return to Seattle on Saturday, May 31st. During that period he will speak at the San Francisco Vedanta Society’s annual Memorial Day Retreat at Olema, in addition to giving talks at the Berkeley and Sacramento Vedanta Societies.

The Philosophical Verses of Yogavasistha
translated by Swami Bhaskarananda

For those of you interested in non-dualistic (Advaita) Vedanta a new book has arrived in our bookshop entitled The Philosophical Verses of Yogavasishtha. The original Yogavâsishtha is a large book, with 32,000 Sanskrit couplets. Some scholars believe that the great sage Vâlmikî is the author, while others do not, but all agree that this is a most wonderful book. Later an anonymous scholar choosing only the most highly philosophical couplets from the Yogavasishtha, created a smaller book named Yogavâsishtha-sâra with 223 couplets.

Now, for the first time, the Yogavâsishtha-sâra has been translated for English-speaking readers. Swami Bhaskarananda did the translation and the accompanying commentary. The first section of the book contains the English translation. Section two contains the Sanskrit text and is followed by a glossary in English. $9.95
Swami Bhaskarananda has provided an authentic and highly accessible translation of the core philosophical precepts in the widely-acclaimed Indian classic, the Yogavasishta, believed to be composed by the great sage Valmiki. The topics addressed in this volume such as renunciation, cessation of desires, inner purification, and the realization of the Atman continue to have universal relevance and resonance.
