Newly Released by Viveka Press
The Philosophical Verses of Yogavasistha
translated by Swami Bhaskarananda

For those of you interested in non-dualistic (Advaita) Vedanta a new book has arrived in our bookshop entitled The Philosophical Verses of Yogavasishtha. The original Yogavâsishtha is a large book, with 32,000 Sanskrit couplets. Some scholars believe that the great sage Vâlmikî is the author, while others do not, but all agree that this is a most wonderful book. Later an anonymous scholar choosing only the most highly philosophical couplets from the Yogavasishtha, created a smaller book named Yogavâsishtha-sâra with 223 couplets.

Now, for the first time, the Yogavâsishtha-sâra has been translated for English-speaking readers. Swami Bhaskarananda did the translation and the accompanying commentary. The first section of the book contains the English translation. Section two contains the Sanskrit text and is followed by a glossary in English. $9.95
Swami Bhaskarananda has provided an authentic and highly accessible translation of the core philosophical precepts in the widely-acclaimed Indian classic, the Yogavasishta, believed to be composed by the great sage Valmiki. The topics addressed in this volume such as renunciation, cessation of desires, inner purification, and the realization of the Atman continue to have universal relevance and resonance. This is an insightful and illuminating guide to the understanding of the meaning and profound implications of non-dualistic philosophy.
