The Vedanta Society of Western Washington hosts a variety of special events throughout the year, offering unique opportunities for spiritual practice, learning, and community engagement. We encourage you to sign up for our weekly email list since most of the event dates vary from year to year.
Guest Speakers
We regularly welcome distinguished Swamis and Nuns from various Vedanta Centers to share their wisdom and insights. These events offer a wonderful opportunity to deepen your understanding of Vedanta through the teachings of respected spiritual leaders. Devotional Singing Group
Join our quarterly Devotional Singing Group to immerse yourself in the spiritual practice of singing hymns and devotional songs. This group meets at the Seattle Ashrama and is perfect for those who love the joy and power of collective singing.
Kalpataru Day
Kalpataru Day commemorates a pivotal event in the life of Sri Ramakrishna, when he revealed himself as a wish-fulfilling tree (Kalpataru) to his disciples. We observe this auspicious day with a daylong meditation vigil at the Seattle Ashrama, beginning at 7:00 AM and concluding with Vespers (Arati) and a special talk by Swami Satyamayananda in the evening. Devotees are encouraged to sign up for an hour of meditation in the shrine to ensure continuous coverage throughout the day. This event consistently takes place on January 1st.
Holy Mother’s Luncheon
Held annually, Holy Mother’s Luncheon honors Sri Sarada Devi, the spiritual consort of Sri Ramakrishna. The event includes a special lecture by a guest Swami, music provided by talented members of our congregation, and a play featuring Mother’s Children. Thereafter we enjoy a luncheon. It’s a time for devotees to gather in fellowship, reflect on Holy Mother’s teachings, and share in the warmth of the spiritual community.
Guru Purnima
Guru Purnima celebrates and honors the spiritual teachers who guide us on our path to enlightenment. It’s a time for devotees to offer pranams to their Guru and renew their commitment to spiritual practice.
Pujas
We celebrate several important Pujas (Devotional Worship) throughout the year at the Seattle Ashrama, each dedicated to a specific deity or spiritual figure. These include:
- Durga Puja: Honoring Goddess Durga, a powerful symbol of divine feminine energy.
- Kali Puja: An observance honoring the divine Mother Kali, often referred to as Mahamaya, the great illusion that governs the universe.
- Sri Sarada Devi Puja: Celebrating the life and teachings of Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi.
- Christ Puja: A unique celebration reflecting the Vedanta tradition’s embrace of all religions.
- Swami Vivekananda Puja: Commemorating the birth of Swami Vivekananda, who introduced Vedanta to the West.
- Shivaratri: A night of deep spiritual significance dedicated to Lord Shiva, observed with fasting, prayer, and meditation.
- Sri Ramakrishna Puja: Honoring the life and teachings of Sri Ramakrishna, the spiritual master who inspired the Ramakrishna Order.
Each Puja involves rituals, prayers, meditation, and the distribution of prasad, fostering a deep connection to the divine. All events are open to everyone, and there is no charge to attend.
