Karma Yoga Days

Karma Yoga, the practice of selfless service, is a cornerstone of Vedantic philosophy. At the Vedanta Society of Western Washington, we offer two opportunities each month for you to engage in Karma Yoga:

Seattle Karma Yoga Day

Held on the 3rd Saturday of each month, this event invites volunteers to join in various tasks that support the upkeep and mission of the Ashrama. Seattle’s Karma Yoga Days run from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM, with volunteers meeting with Swami Satyamayananda in the library for a brief talk on ‘What Is Karma Yoga’. Thereafter, Swami Avikarananda will distribute tasks which may include cleaning, yardwork, or organizing. Please dress in suitable work attire.

Tapovan Karma Yoga Day

On the 4th Saturday of each month, volunteers gather at our serene Tapovan location to contribute to its maintenance and beauty. This event begins at 10:00 AM in the kitchen with a talk on ‘What Is Karma Yoga’ by Swami Brahmatmananda. Thereafter, Swami will discuss available tasks suitable for your ability and comfort level. They may include cleaning, grounds maintenance, or organizing. Please wear weather and work appropriate attire, including sturdy work shoes. Volunteers are welcome to stay as long as they like. Please bring a sack lunch if you intend to remain for the bulk of the day – lunch is typically around 1:00 PM. Vespers will be held at 6:00 PM, so some volunteers opt to remain in to the evening, spending time enjoying Tapovan’s natural beauty.
