Viveka Press began publishing the journal Global Vedanta in 1996, in response to the request of the late Swami Gahanananda, then the Vice-President of the Ramakrishna Order. He emphasized the great need for publication of a Vedanta journal in North America.
Swami Vivekananda thought that religious journals should be interesting as well as educational, and his comments inspired the design of the magazine. The journal undertakes to present Vedanta in a lively and thought-provoking way, with readable articles on spiritual and other themes, humorous pieces, Vedanta news from around the world, poems, jokes, cartoons and book reviews.
For the past 25 years, this journal was only available in printed form by subscription. Due to many factors the print version of the journal will be discontinued. It will instead become an online journal available as a free viewable and downloadable PDF file. This will also allow us to add additional features as we move forward, such as: color photographs and expanded pages, as well as access to back issues.
There will be also be no subscription system, however we encourage you sign up to receive email notifications when a new issue becomes available, or when new content or features are added.
