Global Vedanta
Viveka Press began publishing the quarterly journal Global Vedanta in 1996. The inspiration came from the late Swami Gahanananda, then the Vice-President of the Ramakrishna Order, who had earlier toured the Vedanta Societies in the USA. He emphasized the great need for a Vedanta journal in North America. Swami Bhaskarananda voluntarily took charge of publishing such a journal. That journal became Global Vedanta – made available by paid subscription and mailed around the world.
After 25 years, it transitioned to a digital only format due to the ever increasing printing and mailing costs. Global Vedanta Online is now freely available as a viewable and downloadable PDF. This change also allowed for expanded features like color photographs and more pages.
Swami Vivekananda thought that religious journals should be interesting as well as educational, and his comments inspired the design of the magazine. The journal undertakes to present Vedanta in a lively and thought-provoking way; with readable articles on spiritual and other themes, humorous pieces, Vedanta news from around the world, poems, jokes, cartoons and book reviews.
